Recipient of the Great Master Architect of India award, architect Christopher Benninger’s second book ‘Architecture for Modern India’ was launched in Pune last month.  This follows Benninger’s previous book ‘Letters to a Young Architect’.

‘Architecture for Modern India’ explores Benninger’s personal approach to urban design in India and the architectural sense developed in his decades-long experience of working and teaching here. Compared to his earlier work, it is less reflective and seeks to impart an objective basis for design that is reconciled with the challenges and advantages of urban architecture in India.

Speaking at the event, Ramprasad Akkisetti, managing director of Christopher Charles Benninger Architects Private Limited (Benninger’s architectural firm), said, “This large format 400 page monograph traces architectural practice through Benninger’s work. Each of Benninger’s creations, whether in urban planning or architecture is a benchmark of India’s evolving character and persona.”

The event was attended , professionals like Lila Poonawalla, Arti and Atul Kirloskar, and Vijay Kelkarand architecture students.
