The Banswara district administration in Rajasthan has proposed and initiated criminal cases against 550 beneficiaries who were allotted the first instalment of funds under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana scheme and have not started the house construction which is mandatory.

Some 21,000 construction work that had been held up, has restarted, however, during the field survey it was found that some 550 beneficiaries who had been allotted the first instalment of Rs 30,000 in the first phase, hadn’t yet begun the construction which was mandatory as per the scheme conditions. Some of the officers have already provided the list to the concerning police stations with an advice to initiate legal action under the related provisions. Case has been taken against two persons for construction against the set norms and sanctions.
