Powai police last week arrested a 39-year-old man for duping at least 82 persons, including retired police personnel, of over Rs 1.43 crore by promising them plots from 200 acres he “owned” in Raigad.

Sandeep Jadhav fled after closing his office at Powai Plaza in 2014, when he promised possession of the plots.

Jadhav was tracked through the social media, when an informer told police he was in New Panvel, planning to dupe more people similarly.

Police had earlier arrested Jadhav’s three accomplices.
