Mini townships for the homeless in Kozhikode soon, says min
The Kerela state government is planning to set up mini townships comprising 1,000 houses each for the homeless under the Livelihood Inclusion and Financial Empowerment (LIFE) scheme in the district, said minister for labour and excise T P Ramakrishnan. Addressing media at Nalanda Auditorium on Monday, the minister said that the state government was committed to provide houses to all the homeless in the state.
“The township will have all facilities and officials of local self-government bodies, district administration and revenue department have commenced identification of suitable land to set up township under the LIFE scheme,’’ he said.
The LSG bodies in the district have been engaged in the process of preparing beneficiary list for LIFE scheme and the final list is expected to be completed soon, he said. Referring the developmental projects being implemented utilizing the MP and MLA’s local area development and asset development funds, he said a directive was given to complete the development works initiated under MP and MLA funds within the stipulated timeframe. He added that the problem faced by people for remitting land tax and issuance of title deeds will be resolved at the earliest.
He also said Kozhikode Corporation would launch a model project ‘Garima’ in the corporation limit which envisages grading accommodation facilities provided to the migrant workers. The project will expanded to other LSG bodies in the district after the completion of pilot project.
Earlier, district collector U V Jose presented a draft proposal of the project to construct housing complex under the LIFE scheme on 15 acre of government land situated in the limits of Ulliyeri grama panchayat. The project proposed on PPP model aims at providing houses to the homeless residing in the Ullyieri grama panchayat and surrounding panchayats. The township will have 1,000 houses with all the facilities such as effective waste disposal scheme, primary health centre, community hall, schools, libraries, pakalveedu for elderly, skill development centre, micro-industries units, garden and other facilities.
