Notices issued to over 150 dilapidated buildings in Agra
The Agra Municipal Corporation has identified 156 dilapidated buildings in the city. Officials said that these structures can collapse during heavy rainfall or gusty winds leading to loss of life and property. AMC is continuing its survey in all 100 wards to identify more such buildings.
According to officials, notices have been issued to the owners and caretakers of these buildings asking them to get repair and renovation work done at the earliest. The civic body has also issued a letter to all police stations asking their SHOs to ensure suitable compliance of these notices. Besides, AMC engineers have been asked to vacate people residing in buildings with very poor condition.
The 100 municipal wards in the city are divided into four zones. The maximum number of such buildings is in Chatta zone followed by Lohamandi, Tajganj and Hariparwat. The exercise of issuing notices to owners of such buildings started after multi-storey buildings collapsed in Ghaziabad.
In the notices issued under Section 33(1) of the UP Municipal Corporation Act, AMC has asked the owners of buildings to “pull down the damaged part of the building if it cannot be renovated”. Sharing an area-wise list of dilapidated buildings, AMC has asked police officers to check on the owners of these structures.
