Rs 9.5-cr property tax collected in September
With the 10 per cent rebate on property tax, the Municipal Corporation (MC) has collected Rs 9.57 crore in the last one month. The property tax wing has collected Rs 13.71 crore this fiscal so far, which is around Rs 3 crore more than the last year’s collection.
On the last day of the 10 per cent rebate offer, the MC collected Rs 2.65 crore. Now, the residents can pay the tax without penalty till December.
Mayor Karmajit Singh Rintu stated that the MC had focused on the collection of property tax and made several efforts to enhance the recovery. The civic body has organised ward-level tax collection camps. The councillors were asked to motivate residents to pay tax. The residents can pay the tax without penalty till December 31. After this, they have to pay 20 per cent penalty along with the tax.
“Development is not possible without revenue collection. Property tax is a major source of revenue. Residents are cooperating with us,” the Mayor said.
The MC has been conducting survey of commercial and residential buildings. From next year, MC employees will visit properties to collect tax.
