Land measuring 2.13 lakh square metres allotted to educational societies in four districts in the state had not been utilised within the stipulated period, said the Comptroller and Auditor General’s report 2016 tabled in the legislative assembly on Friday.

The land allotted from 2002 onwards had not been utilised for up to September 2016, said the report. In five cases listed in the report, the land had either been barren or construction had not been completed.

The land had been allotted in Nashik, Kolhapur and Thane.

These were among the findings in a CAG audit of 114 cases of land allotment for educational purposes in 5 districts.

The audit also found that in 42 cases in four districts, the lease period of land allotted for a playground to educational institutes had expired. The expiry period ranged between June 1966 and August 2016. However, the lessees had not applied for a renewal nor had the government taken the land back.

The audit also found eight cases where land had been allotted to educational institutes without executing a lease agreement.
