The MCG has launched a door-to-door system for the payment of property tax, water charges and other utility dues, and has partnered with a private bank for the initiative. Under this, it has integrated point of sale (POS) machines with its server to provide real-time information for their teams to collect the tax by reaching out to property owners in the city.

The payment mode is fully digital and it provides authentic information as the tax will be collected by MCG teams. Citizens can download the tax payment receipts from the MCG website.

“Citizens will have to provide the unique property ID and mobile number to pay their tax dues. Since it is integrated with MCG database server, information will be available to all stakeholders on real-time basis. We have launched a door-to-door collection drive and have formed teams in each of the four zones to ensure that we achieve zero-tax dues,” said V Umashankar, MCG commissioner.

Citizens can make payments on the POS machines using credit or debit cards. The POS machines will generate an instant charge slip to acknowledge the payment. The slip will also mention the details of the MCG collection staff who collected the payment. An SMS will also be sent along with the receipt number to the taxpayer’s mobile phone. This can be used to generate a printable tax payment receipt from the MCG website.

However, such transactions can only be done up to a maximum limit of Rs 10,000. Citizens can also make cash payments up to Rs 10,000 and through cheques, with the payment receipt and mobile SMS for the latter being generated only after realisation.
