Market Led Change for Sustainable Cities: Realty+ Webinar
Realty+ organised a webinar on 20 June 2020 to discuss the importance of having resilient and sustainable infrastructure in the post pandemic world.
The speakers for the session titled “Blueprint for Resilient Infrastructure” were Akhil Ganatra, Managing Director & Healthcare Lead, Clancy Global; Ar. Charanjit Shah, Founder Principal, Creative Group; Jayant Vaitha, Director & Head Design Services, Colliers International India; Krishna Veeraraghavan, Director & Chief Operating Officer, Shriram Properties & Prem Nath, Founder & Principal Architect, Prem Nath and Associates Architects India.
The speaker expressed their thoughts on India’s infrastructure is lacking in terms of management and as a result the nation is more prone to poor disaster management. The moderator of the session Dr Hariharan Chandrashekhar, Founder Chairman, Biodiversity Conservation India Limited was of the view that a shift in mindseit is most important for people to accept the new way of living.
Ar. Premnath stated that maintenance of infrastructure is necessary after implementation. All cities need a good management team and emergency funds ready to be utilized in case a disaster strikes. Krishna Veeraraghavan expressed that new cities need to be developed in a sustainable way wherein, Satellite townships away from main cities will be the growth centres. Akhil Ganatra expressed that intelligent building management and building a circular economy is the way towards creating smart cities.
Prof. Charanjit Shah drew attention to the older ways of city planning which concentrated on sel sufficient neighbourhoods and thus creating a city that was resilient to disasters. According to Jayant Vaitha, private- public partnership is critical in building smarter and better planned cities with superior social infrastructure and communication systems.
The panel discussion was concluded with a Q&A session by Sapna Srivastava, Editor, Realty+, Asif Ahmed, National Sales Head Duravit India & Prateek Mathur, Vice President, Business, PRISM Johnson Limited.
