The residents of various sectors of the Noida city have defied the prohibitory order and have stopped the work of the waste-to-energy plant in Sector 123. The residents of several sectors and neighbouring villages gathered at Parthala village to devise the way forward in their protest against the dump site and then marched towards the landfill because of which the work was stopped.

The district administration had issued a notice to 36 people to maintain law and order and refrain from the disruption of construction work of the landfill in the sector.

According to the residents of Sector 117-122, they will not let the Noida Authority materialise its plan to build a waste-to-energy plant on a 25-acre land in Sector 123. Residents say that they have to save their homes, future and call peace bonds as illegal. After seeing a massive protest, residents of some other sectors also joined in large numbers. The residents terms it as not a fight of few residents but a city’s fight as they did not want any landfill or waste-to-energy plant.

According to a senior official, no work was harmed on Sunday and it was an off day while the work will resume on Monday and if anyone is found disrupting the construction work, strict action will be taken against them.
