Pune civic body approves construction of 6,000 houses under PMAY
The Pune Municipal Corporation has given permission to private builders to build 6,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Aawas Yojana (PMAY).
This means more urban poor can hope to fulfill their dream of buying a house.“The projects will come up in different parts of the city,” said Prashant Waghmare, city engineer, while speaking to media.
The civic body has already approved 6,264 houses in the city. The houses will be built for the economically weaker sections and low and middle-income groups. They will be built on municipal plots reserved for urban poor housing projects in Kharadi, Hadapsar and Vadgaon areas.
Waghmare said that the civic body will soon announce the dates for the lottery to select the beneficiaries. The civic body has also made arrangements for a tie-up with financial institutions.
